Tutoring Websites
The Department of Education recently completed the production of two interactive web based tutoring programs that will be helpful to your students for mastering the Sunshine State Standards and providing homework assistance.
The Florida Learning Network, http://www.fllearningnetwork
Florida Learning Network provides students with these resources:
v Real-time, online tutoring through an electronic whiteboard provided by trained tutors
o a whiteboard is a place where students and tutors can interactively ask and answer academic questions in writing
v Searchable educational content designed to assist with homework and projects
v Monitored bulletin board with educational content provided by students, mentors, parents, and teachers
v Links to select educational Web sites
The Florida Tutor Network, http://www.fltutornetwork.com, is a similarly designed site with the same features and is offered by the Florida Department of Education to students attending schools in the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium (PAEC), North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC), and Heartland Educational Consortium (HEC).
Tutoring hours for both programs are Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time and Central Time for K-5 grades and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time and Central Time for grades 6-12. Help desk hours are from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time for both sites.
Parents and students can register at any time. Students under 13 must have parental permission to participate in the tutoring sessions. Only students can participate in the tutoring sessions but parents can link to their student and view saved tutoring sessions.
I hope that you will find these sites useful for your students. Please let us know about your experience on the sites and if you have any difficulties.
