Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Seventh Grade Geography!   This year we will be concentrating on the earth, climate, and the world's people.  We will be studying many different countries and cultures around the world.  We will be doing a variety of activities this year in our study of Geography, so I have compiled some information to help you get organized for a successful year.  You and your parent or guardian should go through this information together.   You will put this in sheet in your notebook after you and your parent have signed it.  I look forward to our travels across the world together!

Sincerely,

Mr. Montauk

GRADE CATEGORIES AND WEIGHTS

70% Classroom Performance i.e., quizzes, projects, and notebook.

30% Assignments i.e., written homework assignments, class participation.

HOMEWORK POLICY

  1. Written assignments are generally due the day after they are assigned.  For example, if homework is assigned Monday, it is due on Tuesday.
  2. Quizzed will be given after every two sections of a chapter.  Occasionally there may be three sections  quizzed at one time due to odd numbers of sections in some chapters.  Dates of quizzes will be posted several days in advance for students to put in their planners.  Study guide will be provided.  Please have a high lighter to use during our reviews.
  3. Planners are expected to be filled out at the beginning of each week as soon as students arrive in class.  I will check planners as a homework grade.  (Parents/ Students can access planner information our class website.)
  4. The class notebook will be graded at the end of each nine week period for a test grade.  It's important to keep organized through out the grading period.  (Notebook entries are also located on the website.)

*Other long term assignments will have separate written instructions which will include a timeline for completion of the assignment. CHECK THE PLANNER!

CLASS NOTEBOOK

You will be keeping a notebook in Geography this year.  You will need a three-ring, one inch sized binder.  Please be sure to get the correct size.  Any smaller will be difficult to keep all you work in and any larger will take up too much space in your back pack.

 TEXTBOOKS

Each student will be issued The World and Its People. There will be a book check each nine week period.  These books will be collected at the end of the year.  If the book is lost or damaged, the student will need to pay for the book to be eligible to participate in some school activities.  The replacement for this textbook is approximately $50.00.  You child will be able to keep this textbook at home as we will have a classroom set for them to use at school.
