Mr. Montauk’s Sixth Grade World History

 e-mail: montaukv@gm.sbac.edu

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to World History!   This year we will be concentrating on the early civilizations, the ancient world and the middle ages.  We will be learning about new empires, new faiths, and a changing world.  We will be doing a variety of activities this year in our study of World History, so I have compiled some information to help you get organized for a successful year.  You and your parent or guardian should go through this information together.   You will put this in sheet in your notebook after you and your parent have signed it.  I look forward to our journey across time together!

Sincerely,

Mr. Montauk

GRADE CATEGORIES AND WEIGHTS

60% Classroom Performance i.e., tests, projects, class participation, and notebook.

40% Assignments i.e., written homework assignments.

HOMEWORK POLICY

  1. Written assignments are generally due the day after they are assigned.  For example, if homework is assigned Monday, it is due on Tuesday.
  2. Test will be given at the end of each unit of study.  Dates will be posted several days in advance for the students to put in their planners.
  3. The class notebook will be graded at the end of each nine week period.

*Other long term assignments will have separate written instructions which will include a timeline for completion of the assignment. CHECK THE PLANNER!

CLASS NOTEBOOK

You will be keeping a notebook in Social Studies this year.  You will need a three-ring, one inch sized binder.  Please be sure to get the correct size.  Any smaller will be difficult to keep all you work in and any larger will take up too much space in your back pack.

TEXTBOOKS

Each student will be issued World History JOURNEY ACROSS TIME – The Early Ages.

There will be a book check each nine week period.  These books will be collected at the end of the year.  If the book is lost or damaged, the student will need to pay for the book to be eligible to participate in some school activities.  The replacement for this textbook is approximately $50.00.  You child will be able to keep this textbook at home as we will have a classroom set for them to use at school.
